Special Invitation: Call for Papers

The Kentucky Philological Association encourages faculty in foreign languages to submit proposal abstracts for papers to be read at its annual meeting, March 4-5 2005, at Northern Kentucky University.

We are anticipating a well-attended and lively conference, with the attractions of Cincinnati (just seven miles away) added to the varied events associated with the meeting. This will be a wonderful opportunity for professional and social interaction with colleagues from all over the state. The papers and ensuing discussions are reliably stimulating, and outstanding papers will be eligible for publication in the Kentucky Philological Review, a selective and widely respected journal.

You may submit an abstract on any topic of interest to you; I am proposing the following topics for special sections, and I would love to hear from you if you would be interested in developing an abstract or in chairing a section.
Thanks for considering this invitation!

Cordially yours,

Translation and the Profession
Proposals are welcomed on any topic having to do with translation. Examples include a comparative analysis of two or more translations of the same work; a presentation with commentary of one of your translations; a pedagogical essay on teaching works in translation; or a study of the special challenges presented by a particular work, author, genre, or language.
Foreign-Language Film
Proposals are welcomed on any film (or films) made in a language other than English, and on related topics.
Reminder: These are only two possibilities; we would love to see proposals on other topics as well.
