Advocacy Workshop for German Teachers

Governor Proclaims "The Year of Languages"

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher has officially proclaimed proclaimed 2005 as "The Year of Languages". Fletcher, "urges all citizens to become familiar with the services and benefits offered by education programs in our Commonwealth, and to support and participate in these programs so as to gain proficiency not only in English, but in other languages as well." Language Students in the News

The Kentucky Enquirer (Cincinnati's KY edition) had as its front page local news story, an article about yesterday's video conference between Bishop Brossart, Villa Madonna Academy, Manual H.S. and the Lycée Charles de Gaulle in Dijon, France.

Mimi Hagedorn knows how to keep her students excited about learning. This past fall, she took her classes to a Civil War site so they'd be better prepared to talk about local history with some French students they'll host this spring. On Tuesday, they met those students through a videoconference - technology that blew the kids away.

"This was really cool," said junior Kari Becker, 17. "The kids are thousands of miles away and we can see them."

2005 Festival Bulletin Published

festival_cover_05_small.gif KWLA is proud to announce the publication of the 2005 Festival Bulletin. Featured on the cover of the bulletin is the artwork of Kendall Smith. All current members will receive a copy of the bulletin in the mail in the next two to three weeks. A PDF-version of the bulletin has now also been posted for additional print out. Regional Festival Registration is now open. Teachers who wish to send students to compete at a Regional Festival must send in the appropriate registration forms and fees for each student to the Regional Director of their festival. A map of Kentucky and list of counties can be found on page 6 of the festival bulletin. Contact your Regional Director for mailing deadlines and fees. Learn More →

Fulbright Hosting Opportunity - Morocco

Regular Membership: $35.00 Retired Membership: FREE Student Membership: FREE

Members who join or renew their membership along with the fall conference will continue to pay $25.00 for their membership.
