Professional Development Workshop at WKU

On Saturday, February 25, 2006, the Department of Modern Languages at Western Kentucky University invites you to attend a professional development workshop for P12 world language teachers and interested postsecondary teachers.  The workshop topics will be "Developing Standards-Based Units of Study" and the new "LinguaFolio KY!" assessment tool.  The workshop presenters and facilitators are P12 participants in the Improving Educator Quality grant project sponsored by WKU during the past year, as well as Dr. Jacque Van Houten, KDE World Language Consultant, and members of the WKU Department of Modern Languages.  You will come away with useful information and instructional material that you can easily integrate into your classes.

The cost of the workshop is $15 to cover lunch and refreshments as well as workshop materials.  We can also provide some travel funding for those coming some distance to attend.  P12 teachers will earn six PD hours for attending this workshop.

We hope to see you here on February 25!  In addition to gaining some useful professional development, the workshop will also give you an opportunity to learn more about the WKU IEQ project by speaking with those who have participated in the grant project during the past year.  We have reapplied for this grant, which features intensive summer abroad experiences to boost P12 teachers' linguistic skills and cultural knowledge in addition to honing pedagogical skills and experience.  If awarded, next year's grant will fund 20 Spanish teachers to attend 2-week language schools in Mexico as well as 2-week immersion experiences for 6 French and 4 German teachers.  You will be able to learn more about this from those organizing the summer study-abroad programs.
