Fletcher Urges Foreign Language Requirement

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the following news:

Gov. Ernie Fletcher told a newly reconfigured state Board of Education yesterday he wants Kentucky high schools to eventually require study in a foreign language. Requiring Kentucky students to learn a foreign language would help the state compete globally, Fletcher said. The governor said he'd want students to take at least "one or two years" but did not set a specific time line.
