KWLA's 2008 Teacher of the Year, Linda Zins-Adams, continues to receive press coverage as she begins her preparation for the national ACTFL Teacher of the Year competition.

"Once students start learning the language, doors open for them and it takes them places."

The 2009 KWLA Fall Conference will return to the Lexington Downtown Hotel (A Hilton Affiliate) September 17-19, 2009. The Conference Committee invites all members and prospective members to submit a proposal for the 2009 conference. Proposals for sessions of thirty or fifty-minute sessions three-hour workshops will be accepted through March 31, 2009. Preference will be given to proposals in the following categories: assessment, best practices, community/advocacy, literacy, literature/research, technology, and units of study.
New for 2009: View the proposal evaluation rubric that will be used by the conference committee and representatives from the language-specific organizations to select proposals. Decisions by the committee are final. Presenters of accepted proposals will be notified by May 30, 2009.

Highlands High School German teacher Linda Zins-Adams and 2008 KWLA Outstanding Teacher of the Year has been named the 2009 Teacher of the Year by the Southern Conference on Language Teaching.
Linda represented the state of Kentucky and beat out nine other state teachers of the year, who were selected on the basis of their teaching portfolio, letters of recommendation and an interview. She now advances to the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) convention in San Diego in November 2009, where she and four other regional teachers will vie for ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year.
