As we start 2010, it is time to start thinking about this year's Festivals. The KWLA Executive Board has adopted the following vision statement:

The KWLA World Language Festivals are first and foremost a showcase for student achievement in the area of world language education. The Festivals highlight the communicative and cultural competencies of Kentucky students and aligned with state and national standards. All competitions reflect best practices in world language education and include communicative and cultural components.

It will be our guiding document for the 21st century. We were excited about the results last year and hope that more teachers get involved as we move forward with these changes. The Board hopes that by actively aligning the festivals with state and national standards, more students and teachers will have a positive experience and have their achievements recognized.

The State Festival will be on Saturday, May 15th this year. All students must be registered by the end of the day on Monday, May 3rd. Students not registered on or before May 3rd will not be allowed to participate. To make the festival run as smoothly as possible we ask that you register your students as soon as possible.

Don't forget. All videos must focus on the target culture as it relates to the theme for the year. The theme for 2010 is: "Welcome to Kentucy and the 2010 World Equestrian Games".
