What's happening in our chapter

MARCH 6 , 2006 : The Department of foreign Languages and International Studies at Bellarmine University will again host the Kentucky State AATG Summer Study Trip Group Interviews. A light lunch will be provided by the Bellarmine International Office. The event will take place from 1 - 4 pm in Horrigan Hall, in the Campus Center Fireplace Room. The interview team consists of Bellarmine German Faculty Dr. Fred Ehrmann, David Domino, Gabriele Bosley and in addition Bellarmine's in-bound exchange student Johannes Rosskothen and Almir Banjanovic, a Bellarmine German/FLIS major who will have just returned from a semester of study in Tübingen.

MARCH 24-26, 2006 : A Workshop entitled “Neue Deutsche Popmusik im Unterricht”  will be held at the Max Kade German Haus on the University of Kentucky Campus Friday March 24th- to Sunday March 26th, 2006. We will gather for an optional reception Friday night, work most of the day on Saturday and wrap up by 12:00 on Sunday. The workshop will be led by Daniela Preuß (Goethe Institute Chicago) Tricia Fellinger (AATG president Ohio) and Jeff Rogers (University of Kentucky). OCTOBER 19-21, 2006 : German-specific workshops and sessions at the Annual Meeting of the Kentucky World Languages Association. Louisville Marriott Downtown. Look for conference updates at http://www.kwla-online.org/. A call for papers is expected later this spring.

FEBRUARY 9, 2006: Hatcher Modern Languages lecture at Western Kentucky University (7:00 pm in the FAC Recital Hall). Dr. Gilman will speak  on "You Don't Have to be Jewish to be Jewish: Multiculturalism and the "New" Jews in Germany Today."  He is an internationally recognized scholar of German studies and of intellectural and cultural history.  He is now Distinguished Professor of the Arts and Sciences at Emory University, where he is currently giving an interdisciplinary 2-semester course on diets and dieting.  His scholarship  encompasses German studies, Jewish studies, science and society, culture and society, psychoanalytic studies, disability studies, and health studies.  He has published or edited 70+ books.  His most recent, a study of Franz Kafka, was preceded by a co-edited "Global History of Smoking" and a widely reviewed monograph entitled "Fat Boys: A Slim Book."
